DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendars!  The Cathedral of the Pines will be hosting the annual MLK Day keynote address on Jan 14!\n\nThe theme for 2024 is “America the Dream” after the song of that title by Hancock composer and folk singer Steven Schuch\, blending a traditional version of “America the Beautiful” with Dr. King’s dream for all people.\n\n\n\nThe keynote address will be delivered on Sunday\, January 14\, 1:00 p.m.\, at Cathedral of the Pines\, Rindge\, by Dr.  Michael Klarman\, Charles Warren Professor of American Legal History at Harvard Law School and a distinguished expert in civil rights and constitutional law.  Commemorating the 60-year anniversary of the signing of the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964\, Professor Klarman will speak on “Brown v. Board\, the Civil Rights Movement\, and Where We Are Today on Race.”  A question-and-answer session will follow along with a meet-the-professor reception. \n\n\nTo pre-register\, please email info@cathedralofthepines.org with your name\, number of people attending\, address and phone number.

DESCRIPTION:            A reverent reading of the names of the Sept. 11th victims will be presented at the Cathedral of the Pines. The solemn ceremony will begin at 8:45 am\, rain or shine. The memorial will take approximately 3 hours. \n            The theme of the memorial is from Ecclesiastes 9:11-12. “11. Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift\, nor the battle to the strong\, nor bread to the wise\, nor riches to the intelligent\, nor favor to those with knowledge\, but time and chance happen to them all. 12. For man does not know his time. Like fish that are taken in an evil net\, and like birds that are caught in a snare\, so the children of man are snared at an evil time\, when it suddenly falls upon them.” \n            The names of the 2\,977 people who were killed by the terrorist attack against the United States on September 11\, 2001 will be read by Admiral Mike Mullen\, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff\, Alan Hicks of the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey\, actress Betsy Palmer\, actor Jerry Orbach\, and volunteers from the New York Unit of the Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic.
